Although their career got off to a relatively slow start, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel went on to become one of the premier pop acts of the 1960s, undisputed masters of polished, urban folk-rock remembered for songs such as
”The Sounds of Silence,” ”Mrs. Robinson,” and ”Bridge Over Troubled Water.” This three-CD set contains the five albums the duo released between 1965 and 1970: ”Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.,” ”Sounds of Silence,”
”Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme,” ”Bookends,” and ”Bridge Over Troubled Water.” In retrospect, not all of the songs hold up; music that epitomizes a particular period in pop history is bound to seem dated after a couple of decades. Nevertheless, the collection captures the feeling of musical experimentation that characterized the late 1960s, as well as the magic of Simon & Garfunkel at their best.
