A convicted murderer, who had been released on parole, was ordered held without bond Tuesday on charges of robbing and raping a 15-year-old girl at gunpoint Monday morning as she walked to school.
James Berry, 30, of 340 W. 92d Pl., had just attempted to rob a 16-year-old student in the 9400 block of South Ada Street when he accosted the 15-year-old victim, according to Assistant State`s Atty. Nancy Donahoe.
After the rape victim broke away and screamed, an off-duty police officer apprehended Berry, who was paroled Jan. 4 after serving 10 years in prison for murder, Donahoe said.
