Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Personnel: Catlin Barnes, vocals; Larry Poggi, guitar; Michael Pappas, bass; Andre Peraza, drums.

Formed: 1986 by songwriters Barnes and Poggi.

Current lineup together since: January.

Sound: ”It`s powerful American guitar-oriented rock,” says Barnes.

Influences: Poggi`s preferences include Neil Young, the Buzzcocks and punk-era bands, while Barnes says: ”I don`t really have any. I grew up on AM radio, so I guess you could say Motown, but I don`t think that really reflects my sound.”

In-concert cover versions: ”We punked up Linda Ronstadt`s `Different Drum,` ” Barnes says. ”I`d like to do a Stiv Bators tune, but that would be in the future. We couldn`t really punk that up.”

Namesake: ”It describes our sound,” Barnes says.

Turf: Play about once a month. Toured Midwest, West Coast. Played in L.A. Recordings: Big Bash has released two albums on its own Pinhead label:

”Wild Calling” (late 1986) and ”Big Talk” (late 1987). This summer the band plans to release a nine-song CD, also on Pinhead, called ”King of London,” produced by Timothy Powell, Poggi and Barnes.

Philosophy: ”To provide an escape and to entertain, even though it`s hard work,” Barnes says.

Goals: ”This time not to let so much time pass between projects; we already have material for two future albums,” Barnes says. ”If I had my way I would have toured Budokan by now, but if you set a timetable you`re usually disappointed. It`s better to set more realistic goals and just build on that level.”

Next appearance: Exit, July 1.
