In the May 24 Tribune, the Republican candidate for Cook County Board president, state Sen. Aldo DeAngelis, is quoted as characterizing the tactics of his opponent Richard Phelan as ”the typical litigator`s style of distortion.”

As a practicing trial lawyer who has often appeared as both a co-defendant`s attorney and an adversary in litigation handled by Richard Phelan, I believe Sen. DeAngelis` comment is not only unfair to Mr. Phelan, a well-respected trial lawyer, but also an unwarranted characterization of trial lawyers in general.
