I agree 100 percent with Chicago Symphony oboist Richard Kanter`s recent letter regarding the future of Orchestra Hall. I also admire his courage.
It takes guts to tell the rich and powerful that their ideas are wacko. Most likely the movement to build a new $500 million concert hall is the work of several uncultured wealthy or powerful bigwigs who hate driving downtown to see the world`s greatest orchestra, or want to have their name associated with anything big.
For a city often boasting of its architecture, and seeking to ”move up” in the world, destruction of a historical treasure with a lookalike structure is a hysterical idea. Or would be, if it weren`t so likely to come true.
(Money works in strange ways.)
Mr. Kanter, I hope you like moving!
