It`s 1 a.m. and you can`t get to sleep. Try a warm glass of milk or turn on a late-night flick. Or you can hop on your 10-speed bike and pedal down to Insomnia Cycle `90 in the wee hours of Sunday morning (or Saturday night, depending on your perspective) for a moonlight trek through downtown Chicago. ”It`s kind of a crazy ride,” said membership director Nancy Minster.
”You can see the city while it`s sleeping.” The 25-mile tour (it`s not a race) begins at Buckingham Fountain around 2 a.m. and loops through several neighborhoods and parks.
The ride ends at dawn with breakfast at the foot of the fountain. Participants receive a custom-designed patch.
The event, which began in the 1960s, had been in hibernation for almost 20 years, but last year Friends of the Parks and Chicago`s American Youth Hostels resurrected the ride. The concrete paths will be lined with safety guides, refreshments and-with Mother Nature`s help-plenty of moonlight.
