A preliminary draft of the 1991 Du Page County Forest Preserve District levy shows a 2.5 percent increase, from $23.7 million to $24.3 million.
The Forest Preserve Commission Finance and Land Acquisition Committee approved the draft Thursday, so it would have the proper legal notices ready to publish for an Oct. 2 public hearing. But finance chairman Carolyn Kulie
(R-Addison) stressed that the figures were not final.
”I would like to see it go down,” Kulie said. She declined to elaborate.
The largest items funded by the levy are debt service and building leases, at $13.2 million; the general fund, which includes salaries, district headquarters operating expenses and professional services, at $6.6 million;
and construction and development of new facilities, at $1.25 million.
Although the debt service and day-to-day expenses of the district were expected to increase about 2.5 percent, much of that is expected to be made up for with increased income from fees and interest. No new employees were expected to be hired, Kulie said.
The 1991 levy is used to fund expenses from July 1, 1991, to June 30, 1992.
Kulie said the committees that draw up the components of the budget will further refine their levy requests in the next month or so. It will then go to the Finance Committee before the budget hearing. The full committee must approve it by Nov. 5.
If no changes are made between now and Nov. 5, the owner of a $150,000 home would pay $91.35 in real estate taxes to the district.
