It looked grim for Richards, which was without starting quarterback Mark Mele and then fell behind Argo 12-0.
But the Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0) rallied around backup quarterback David Kenebrew and rolled to a 40-12 SICA North victory at home. Kenebrew completed 12 of 22 for 191 yards in his first start of the year. Argo fell to 1-4, 1-2. ”He rose to the occasion and did a great job passing,” coach Gary Korhonen said.
”I knew I had to help out the team. They were depending on me,”
Kenebrew said. ”We came out sort of slow, but we got our offense together and executed well. My passing was average, I could have done better. If I do well in practice I hope to start next week.”
7. HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR
Ron Reichert completed 13 of 16 for 223 yards and three touchdowns as Homewood-Flossmoor (5-0, 3-0) remained alone atop the SICA East with a 42-7 home victory over Bloom Trail (0-1, 0-5).
Reichert hit Duane Lyle for 6- and 28-yard touchdowns and Chris Canalia for a 27-yarder.
”I feel confident with what I`m doing,” Reichert said. ”I like spreading it out (passing to different players) but we still have to improve offensively.”
The Vikings, who were up 14-0 after the first quarter and 28-0 at halftime, had 350 yards of total offense.
15. NORTH CHICAGO
North Chicago rolled to a 48-0 North Suburban victory at Fenton, getting only two of its seven touchdowns from the offense.
Michael White returned interceptions 13 and 45 yards for second-quarter scores as the Warhawks improved to 5-0 and dropped Fenton to 0-5.
Quarterback Johnny Johnson (11 of 17 for 157 yards) tossed a 4-yard scoring pass to Micheal Herrod and a 28-yarder to Ozzie Young in the third quarter.
Young had already scored on an 85-yard kickoff return. The Warhawks`
other points came on Buck Phillips` 53-yard punt return and Antoine Thompson`s 15-yard interception return.
17. KANKAKEE
Chris Jackson ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries as Kankakee (5-0, 1-0) opened SICA South play with a 28-0 victory over visiting Rich Central (1-4, 0-1).
