New York Islanders left wing Don Maloney, a 13-year veteran, announced his retirement Thursday, saying he plans to remain with the team in an as-yet- undetermined capacity.
Maloney, who hadn`t played since Nov. 18, had no goals and five assists in 12 games for the Islanders this season. He appeared in 765 regular-season games with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers and the Islanders. He had 214 goals and 350 assists.
Maloney expressed no regrets about retiring.
”I think it`s harder on my family and friends about not playing again,” said Maloney, who added: ”I would like to be thought of as a guy who worked hard, showed up and played for my team.”
