Maury Leitzke scored 36 points Tuesday night, leading Woodstock to an 86-74 non-conference victory at crosstown rival Marian Central.
”I started a little shaky, but then I got loose and things started to click for me,” said Leitzke, who included two three-pointers and one dunk among his baskets.
Woodstock (13-5) broke a 30-30 tie with an 8-0 spurt late in the first half and led 40-32 at halftime. Later, a 10-2 run gave the Blue Streaks a 58-48 lead after three quarters.
”We had a good effort tonight, but we missed a lot of easy shots and we made bad decisions defensively,” said Woodstock coach Gordie Tebo. ”Marian is a quick team, and they outscrapped us.”
Dirk Stanger led Marian (10-5) with 24 points.
McHenry 64, Cary-Grove 50-Dan Wasilowski had 20 points and Stacy Dadian 19 to pace McHenry (4-14, 3-4) in the Fox Valley Conference.
Crystal Lake Central 101, Jacobs 75-Dan Ciesielski had 20 points, Geoff Roske 13, Andy McKinnon 12 and Tom Kolodziej 10 as Central (11-7, 6-1) romped in the Fox Valley. J.J. Meyer had 25 points, Pat McGrath 20 and Chuck Leewood 18 for Jacobs (5-11, 2-5).
Lincoln-Way 63, Rich East 60-Lincoln-Way (15-3), led by Will Tuttle (25 points) and Costa Panagos (18), rolled in a SICA crossover. Creo Argue had 13 for Rich East (2-15).
