Schaumburg officials said this week they expect to come out on top in the competition for an experimental rapid transit system.
”Schaumburg can make the best application and is the best location in the Chicago area,” Planning Director Thomas Koenig said Tuesday at a Transportation Committee meeting.
On Friday, the village will submit to the Regional Transportation Authority its proposal to have a two-mile prototype personal rapid transit line built in Schaumburg. The line will use small, computer-programmed rail cars traveling on lightweight guideways.
Other communities expected to vie for the experimental system are Deerfield, Joliet, Lisle, Naperville and Rosemont.
