Even though it will be St. Patrick`s Eve and this storyteller hails from Ireland, don`t expect just traditional Irish folklore when Jay O`Callahan performs at Northwestern University on Saturday. He`s sure to show off with all kinds of yarns using his innovative technique, numerous characters, expressive face and mighty voice-qualities that have made him one of the most respected storytellers in his business.
Northwestern hopes that O`Callahan`s creative style will help audience members unlock their own imagination. ”We`re so inundated with instant pictures on TV. Everything does the work for us,” a university representative said. ”We don`t use the tools within us. Storytelling forces us to.”
In addition to the evening performance, O`Callahan will also lead a Saturday morning workshop, which costs $45. Call for registration.
