I agree with Gisele N. Gover`s suggestion (Voice, Feb. 24) that the death of the couple from Oak Forest who were killed by a car of shoplifters being chased by the police was unfortunate. Even though these ”criminals”
shoplifted ”only” a load of blue jeans, letting them or anyone else get away with a crime is not the answer.
I resent Gover`s calling high-speed pursuits a game for ”thrill-seeking policemen” who watch too many movies. To officers, high-speed chases are not a game; their lives are in danger as well. My father was a police officer for 15 years and he put his life on the line every time he was involved in a high speed chase, none of which were just for thrills.
