Overcome by meeting mania?
There are ways to employ confab control, says Judith Learner, a California communications consultant.
In the current issue of New Woman magazine, Learner offers advice on making meetings quick and efficient. Tips include:
– Setting a firm goal. Determine whether it`s brainstorming, decision making or information gathering.
– Include the specific objectives in the pre-meeting memo.
– Make it quick. An hour or less is sufficient for most meetings.
– Start on time. Don`t backtrack for latecomers who will get the message about prompt arrival.
– Establish who is the decision-maker. Participants need to know whether it will be the group or the boss.
– Contribute but don`t pontificate. The aim is to exchange ideas, achieve the meeting goal, then return to work.
