Joe Walsh
Ordinary Average Guy (Pyramid/Epic) (STAR)
Joe Walsh knows he`s not an ordinary, average guy, but he apparently thinks it`s witty to write a song as if he were. Trouble is, all of Walsh`s attempts at humor come up lame: ”The Gamma Goochie” is Pastor Joe exhorting his ”brothers and sisters” in the studio chorus to repeat different sounds he makes; ”Alphabetical Order” features Joe (in God knows what kind of condition)tossing out the ABCs and every acronym known to man. You can file that next to the Beach Boys` astronomical primer, ”Solar System,” under Sheer Stupidity. When Walsh gets serious, he`s about half as good as he usually is-only ”All of a Sudden” and ”You Might Need Somebody” are worth hearing more than a couple of times.
