Shoppers will find it more expensive to shop in Niles this fall. The Village Board has voted to increase the village`s sales tax by 0.5 percent. On Sept. 1, Niles` sales tax will rise to 7.5 percent providing an additional $2 million a year. The increase does not apply to sales of food, drugs or autos.
