Although this is technically a debut, Darryl Pierce and Dwayne Simon of the L.A. Posse are not exactly unknowns. As producers, they were the architects behind L.L. Cool J`s ”Bigger and Deffer” and ”Walking With a Panther” LPs. For their own album, the L.A. Posse relies on original and often complex jazz-inflected compositions rather than sampled melodies or cloying pop hooks. Darryl Pierce handles the bulk of the rapping and is ably supported by a talented supporting cast of vocalists, particularly Malika, who adds real flourish to several numbers.
