Federal health experts confirmed Thursday that 1990 was the nation`s worst measles year in more than a decade. Cases were up 52 percent from 1989. And for the first time, measles afflicted more preschoolers than other children. Last year, the United States reported 27,672 cases of the childhood disease, which was thought to be headed for eradication a decade ago. The fatality rate-there were 89 deaths-was the highest in three decades.
