The Du Page County Forest Preserve Commission will review its proposed 1991-92 budget of $10.5 million at a public hearing Tuesday.

The budget, which has been approved by the Finance Committee but has yet to be considered by the full commission, calls for expenditures of about $132,000 less than this fiscal year, which ends June 30. Property-tax collections, however, are up about $350,000, to $6.6 million, according to budget documents.

In an effort to lessen the tax burden, the commission has been spending more of its reserve funds. At the end of this fiscal year, reserves are expected to total about $3.9 million, compared with a projected figure of about $2 million at the end of the next fiscal year.

”I don`t want to bring the reserves down to a dangerous level,” said Finance Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Kulie. At $2 million, the commission would have enough to operate the Forest Preserve District for about three months if it had no other revenues, she said.

The largest increase in the budget is an additional $100,000 allocated toward salaries and wages. Much of that, however, was transferred Thursday by the Executive Committee to a reserve fund.

The money is to be used if the district hires additional personnel.

After the public hearing, which will be held at district headquarters in Glen Ellyn, the commission will consider the budget Wednesday at a Committee of the Whole meeting, during which no action will be taken.

Final passage is expected at the June 18 meeting at the county complex in Wheaton.
