Federal funding for a flood water basin in Elk Grove Township has been approved by the U.S. House, and the Senate is expected to follow suit later this summer.
The $4 million in federal funds will enable the completion of the 340-million-gallon reservoir now under construction at the junction of Elmhurst Road and Interstate Highway 90, according to a spokesman for Rep. Henry J. Hyde of Bensenville.
Congress has already earmarked $10 million for the reservoir, which is on land owned by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, said Hyde spokesman Sam Stratman.
