Nikkei, dollar lower: The Nikkei Stock Average of 225 selected issues shed 223.35 points, or .94 percent, Thursday on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closing at 23,543.03 points. The dollar, meanwhile, was down slightly in early trading, changing hands at 138.36 yen at midday.
