Don Pierson`s article (June 25) about the new Chicago Stadium quotes stadium owner Bill Wirtz as saying, ”I told the mayor we are not responsible for rebuilding the West Side of Chicago because we are not developers.”
Yet Patrick T. Reardon`s initial article (May 10) said part of the deal with the city instructs ”replacement homes and 75 other new homes will be built and sold by the (Wirtz-Reinsdorf) partnership to low- and middle-income families.” Has there been a change in the deal?
I would suggest to Bill Wirtz that he start thinking of himself and Jerry Reinsdorf as developers in this particular venture, because rebuilding that little part of the West Side shown in the map with Reardon`s article is an important part of being good neighbors with the residents in the new location.
