The Fox Valley Park District has passed an ordinance banning from its more than 100 parks people ”wearing known gang colors, emblems or other gang insignia.”

The amendment to the park rule ordinance also allows the park district`s police force to eject people who ”communicate gang-related messages through the use of hand signals.” People who enter parks wearing gang insignia or flashing gang signals will be subject to arrest, said district director Charles Hoscheit.

In amending the rules, the district, which covers Aurora, North Aurora, Montgomery and nearby unincorporated areas, is bringing its regulations in line with those of the Aurora Park Department, Hoscheit said. ”We have some parks that will get some gangs that drift through them,” he said.
