A West Chicago City Council committee is putting pressure on a developer to reduce the size of a controversial townhouse development north of town and commit more funds towards solving traffic and flooding problems.
The Planning, Zoning and Development Committee last week asked Pulte Homes to reduce the proposed density of the project, slated for property near North Avenue and Illinois Highway 59, to 165 units from 198.
The committee also asked the developer to provide assurances that it would install a traffic light at Illinois 59 and Diversey Parkway, the entrance to the project, and be willing to correct any drainage problems that may occur as a result of development for up to three years after construction is complete.
Residents of the unincorporated Wayne Township subdivision of Oak Meadows, directly north of the area proposed for development, are opposing the project on the grounds it will increase traffic congestion and flooding in the area.
