Mergers, acquisitions up: Merger and acquisition activity picked up in the second quarter of 1991 compared with the first quarter, according to a survey by Schaumburg-based W.T. Grimm & Co. and Merrill Lynch Business Brokerage and Valuation, a unit of Merrill Lynch. But deals were down in the second quarter compared with the year-earlier quarter. For the second quarter, the total value of announced mergers and acquisitions disclosing a purchase price was $19.4 billion, up 49 percent from $13 billion in the first quarter.
