Elaine Philipsborn Halperin, 81, a former Chicago resident, died Sunday in her home in La Jolla, Calif. She attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka and the Sorbonne in Paris. She co-founded Midway Editorial Research, a professional editorial organization. Mrs. Halperin translated 15 books from the French, including ”Other Side of the Mountain” by Michel Bernanos. Her translation won the Scott Moncrieff Prize. Survivors include two sons, John and David; and a sister. Memorial services in La Jolla are being planned.
