Statler Brothers
All American Country (Mercury PolyGram) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
The flag-draped cover of this album is no jump on the bandwagon of Gulf War afterglow, as mom, apple pie and the Stars & Stripes have been staple Statler subjects for two decades. It is amazing that after all these years (25 since their first hit, ”Flowers On The Wall”), they still can come up with some fresh-sounding music, but they do here, leavening their usual nostalgic mellowness with some different paces and instrumentations and the fiery occasional lead-singing of tenor Jimmy Fortune. The package should capitalize hugely on their new TNN TV series this fall.
