Block on the block: Out with the old, in with the new is the battle cry of four Deerfield home owners who would consider a wrecking ball swinging through their houses a welcome sight. The owners have banded together, hoping to sell their property in the 600 block of Central Avenue as a single unit.
”What we have here is a good city block ripe for development,” said Mike Manley, real estate agent for the listing firm, Kahn Realty. Manley said a multifamily structure would be perfect for the area, and several Deerfield residents were quick to agree. Sounds as if these property owners have a great asset to offer the community: a little more than an acre of land nestled in a prime location.
But some, such as Barbara Haupt, director of community development in Deerfield, think that at $1.4 million ”it`s vastly overpriced.”
”Those houses are old. Maintenance has not been super.”
Home owner Claude DeKirmandjian is hopeful. ”I know the house needs some repairs, but the land is actually more valuable than the building.”
