There`s still a chance Melido Perez, outstanding again in relief Friday, will start a game before the year`s out.
White Sox manager Jeff Torborg continues to resist the temptation. ”I don`t think there`s another team in our league that has a guy who can do what he does,” he said Saturday. ”He can go anywhere from seven innings to closing a game.”
But the temptation is there.
”Say we got down to a short series, or we got in the playoffs,” said Torborg. ”Now you say, Who are your best three pitchers? Well, he`s got to be one of them.”
So then he would start?
”I`m not sure yet,” Torborg said.
