Businesses establishing partnerships with schools to help improve education have been honored by the East-West Corporate Corridor Association.

The winners were:

– Business partnership with an educational institution: Arthur Andersen and Co., Chicago, for its ”school of the future” program with St. Charles Unit School District 303.

– Corporate leaders developing educational initiatives: Baxter International, Deerfield, and Joseph Kellman and Vernon R. Loucks Jr., for establishing and developing the Corporate/Community Schools of America Inc., and its flagship elementary school on Chicago`s West Side.

– Small business with an educational partnership: Packer Engineering Inc., of Naperville, and its president, Kenneth F. Packer, for a student internship program encouraging young people to pursue careers in science and technology. – Collaborative efforts to develop and maintain scientific and technological leaders: Bill Kurtis, WBBM-TV news anchor, for hosting a 13-part series on public television exploring the frontiers of science; and the Chicago Science Explorers Program.

– Collaborative program supporting minority student development: Turner Construction Co., Deerfield, for working with pupils at Chicago`s Hefferan Elementary School.
