Marty Stuart with Jerry & Tammy SullivanA Joyful Noise (Country Music Foundation) (STAR)(STAR)(STAR)(STAR)
This first album of current material released by the discriminating Country Music Foundation reunites Stuart with two members of a bluegrass-gospel family with whom he worked at the outset of his eclectic career. Eight of the songs were co-written two or three years ago by Stuart and Jerry Sullivan, but they possess an aura that sounds eternal, and Stuart`s sizzling instrumental work and the two Sullivans` rural gospel fire kindle a blazing sound most striking on ”Get Up John,” ”Working on the Building,” ”When Jesus Passed By” and ”Gospel Plow.” A compelling example of the rural sound and spirit that spawned rock `n` roll, some of it is, in fact, no less than acoustic rock.
