Two black students at Hubbard High School, 6200 S. Hamlin Ave., were arrested and charged with punching a 55-year-old white man in what police said was a racially motivated attack on the 63rd Street bus near the school Friday morning.
The victim said he had boarded the westbound Chicago Transit Authority bus at Western Avenue to go to his job in Oak Lawn. The only available seat on the bus was occupied by a sports bag belonging to the youth sitting next to it, the victim said. The victim said he gave the bag to the youth and sat down.
According to Gresham District police and the victim, the youth shouted racial slurs at the victim. When the youth got off at Springfield Avenue, he and three others punched the victim and shattered his glasses, the victim said.
Police arrested the two juveniles in the school, and the victim identified them. The victim was treated at Holy Cross Hospital and released.
