With so many two-family income homes these days, it`s a hard choice when you sometimes have to leave the kids alone after school. To address that issue, the American Red Cross is offering a ”Home Alone” class for children ages 8 to 12. The class, taught by Memorial Hospital staffers, is designed to teach the simple rules and procedures for self-care, including topics such as telephone usage and family rules on home safety.

And while the kids are in class, the parents can attend a free seminar called ”balancing home and career,” which explores and defines home responsibilities, career requirements, family stress and how to increase quality time.

The one-hour class will be taught on Wednesday evening at McHenry County College, at U.S. Highway 14 and Lucas Road, in Crystal Lake from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The fee is $5 payable at the class. For more information, call the college at 815-455-8511.
