I am surprised that you printed Anastasia Theodoropoulos` letter on Jan. 18. The fact that it contained such a blatant error should have been easily spotted.
Contrary to her assertion, those of us who are Roman Catholic do not believe that the pope is ”the embodiment of Christ on earth.” Rather, we hold that the pope, as Peter`s successor as bishop of Rome, has primacy over the universal Church. His primary office, however, is that of bishop and pastor. A claim such as that found in her letter is, in fact, considered to be both heretical and blasphemous by Catholics.
So while Ms. Theodoropoulos is correct in her claim that there are a number of differences between Orthodoxy and Catholicism, in this instance she is incorrect.
