More often than not, expert beauty advice can cost a pretty penny. Not today. Today, you can put away your wallet and get out your notebook for tips from three top makeup professionals.
– Victoria Jackson, a celebrity makeup artist who launched a mail-order makeup line on television (call 1-800-V-MAKEUP), offered this advice on thinning full lips.
”Cover your lip line, upper and lower, with face foundation color. Then powder lightly to set it. Using a lip pencil, line lips just inside your natural lip line. Apply your lip color in an even tone to prevent excess shading.
”For evening, use a darker lip color, topped off with powdered lip color for a shimmery effect.”
– Bobbi Brown, a makeup artist at the Frederic Fekkai Beauty Center in New York whose clients include Andie MacDowell and Jacqueline Bisset, offers advice on getting eye shadow to stay put.
”First, apply loose powder to lid to establish a base-a loose brush or puff will work best. Then, always remember to layer your shadows, going from lightest to darkest. It`s much easier to build on a lighter shade than it is on a darker shade.” (Check out Brown`s Essentials at Henri Bendel, 900 N. Michigan Ave.)
– Peggy Pliscott, a Chicago-based makeup artist who created the looks for Jennifer Jason Leigh in the movie ”Backdraft,” knows how much women love custom-blended powder but hate the expense.
”Most women can buy an inexpensive loose powder from the drugstore
(Pliscott recommends Coty) and can add about 1/2 teaspoon of bright yellow powder (available at Che Squardo, 716 N. Wells St.) for a custom look almost identical to those offered by Yves Saint Laurent.”
