Former Southern Illinois University student Paul Adams makes a variety of gentle noises on his debut album, but whether he`s singing, playing synth, guitar or trumpet, it`s unappetizing. His history as an instrument maker, advertising composer and other careers shows he is prone to experimentation but not the sort that would interest the general public. ”Various Waves” is quite like a stop-start movie soundtrack that desperately needs a movie to enliven it.
