Washington National Insurance Co. posted a fourth-quarter net profit of $2.1 million, or 20 cents a share, up from a year-earlier loss of $16.6 million, or $1.63 a share. The Evanston-based insurance firm said the year-earlier figure reflected an after-tax loss of $17 million related to sale of a subsidiary.
For the full year, Washington National`s loss narrowed to $2.97 million, or 33 cents a share, from a loss of $8.52 million, or 87 cents a share, in 1990.
The company`s individual health insurance segment reported a pretax loss in the latest quarter of $3.6 million, compared with a loss of $6 million a year earlier. For 1991, the unit`s loss dropped to $13.8 million from $33.3 million in 1990.
