When Anita Sorrentino`s 5th-grade class of St. Alexander School in Villa Park teamed up with Greg Patrick, the Villa Park Fire Department`s director of public education, they produced a 30-minute video for the local cable television station facetiously titled ”Misadventures of Baby-sitting.”
”We put a combined emphasis on fun and safety,” said Patrick. ”The boys and girls wrote the script, selected their wardrobes and did all the on- camera acting.”
In the video, aired on Multimedia Cablevision`s Channel 44, the actors and actresses demonstrated the right and wrong ways to be a baby-sitter.
In the first scenario, the father leaves before the sitter arrives, and the sitter immediately calls friends on the telephone and invites them to come for a party; another sitter tries to get the kids to do his homework for him. In the second half of the video, the camera records the baby-sitter asking the parents for emergency phone numbers and taking a tour of the house to see where exits and smoke detectors are located.
