I am truly appalled by the recent actions of Chicago School Supt. Ted Kimbrough. How can he possi-bly justify spending more than $200 on fountain pen ink when my daughter`s class doesn`t even have a pencil sharpener? Or thousands of dollars on scuba equipment when I am still requested to supply toilet and facial tissue and paper towels?
The final rub was his report to the Board of Education, ”Significant Accomplishments of the General Superintendent of Schools.”
This impressive report of more than 30 pages is obviously one man`s attempt to rate his own job performance. I know an awful lot of people who wish they were able to do the same.
I would really like to know how much that report stole from our children- how many labor hours in its construction, how much spent on copying costs and, most of all, how many rolls of toilet paper we could have gotten in its place.
I hope the paper used was recyclable, because the toilet is the only appropriate place for it.
