The developer of a new Schaumburg shopping center proposed for a site near Conant High School is being allowed more time to line up retail tenants before beginning construction.

Without comment, the Schaumburg Village Board has approved the request of Spircoff Builders and General Contractors Inc. of Harwood Heights for a 1-year extension of its deadline for construction to begin on the retail center proposed for the southwest corner of Higgins Road and Plum Grove Road.

”We have concluded that we are 10 to 14 months from having a firm market base in which to proceed with the project,” developer Robert Spircoff said in a letter last month to Schaumburg officials.
