John Bailey, 89, a retired research chemist, died Saturday in the Plaza on the Lake Nursing Center. Mr. Bailey was a research chemist with the State of Illinois Department of Food and Dairies for 37 years. He was chief chemist for 10 years before he retired. He graduated from the former Armour Institute, which is now the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is survived by a son, Gerald H. Bailey; and a grandchild. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Rosemont Park Cemetery, 6750 W. Addison St.
