After reading the Almanac column in the May 11 Tribune, I was struck by the mundane events it mentioned over the last 100 years.
On May 11, 1945, I was aboard the USS Bunker Hill. We were hit by suicide planes and suffered losses of 392 dead and 264 wounded.
I was wondering why this could not be acknowledged as an historical event. It would be a fitting tribute for those who gave their lives that day.
