William H. Schlesinger, 46, a creative consultant at Charles Ifergan Coiffures Ltd., was a volunteer with several AIDS programs throughout Chicago. A resident of North Lake Shore Drive, he died Tuesday in Northwestern Memorial Hospital of complications from AIDS.
A friend, Lee Levitt, described him as ”a man of enormous talent and wit, who surrounded himself with style and beauty beyond the material.”
He worked for the Oak Street beauty salon for more than 10 years after graduating from the Pivot Point International Beauty School.
Well before he was diagnosed as having the AIDS virus, he had been a volunteer with AIDS organizations. These included Open Hands, which serves meals to persons with AIDS; the Howard Brown Clinic and Chicago House.
”He was a wonderful brother,” said his sister, Marlene Quinonez. ”He was very generous as well as very colorful and witty.”
Survivors, besides his sister, include a brother.
A memorial service will be held 8 p.m. Aug. 14 in the Rowland Home for Funerals, 4152 N. Sheridan Rd. Friends will gather at the funeral home an hour before the service.
