State prosecutors say they will seek a long prison sentence Friday when Rev. Lloyd Ray Davis is sentenced for sexually assaulting two Mexican youths who sought his guidance at the Christian Fellowship Church in Waukegan.

Supporters of the Davis plan to hold a ”Free L.R. Davis” rally Friday at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan. Davis, 57, has been in the Lake County Jail since he was convicted on July 10 by Judge Christopher Starck of repeated sexual abuse and assault of the youths, who were 13 and 14 years old at the time of the incidents in 1988 and 1989.

Starck said that Davis used death threats to hide his long history of homosexual conduct with some of his followers at the Christian Fellowship Church.

Davis` relatives have been seeking letters of support since the conviction. State`s Atty. Michael J. Waller said those letters will be presented by Davis` attorneys at the sentencing hearing.

Waller said many of the letters credit Davis with some good works as pastor of the Christian Fellowship Church, but do not address the issue of Davis` criminal conduct.
