William J. Wells, 93, a retired civil engineer, died Thursday in Old Orchard Manor, Skokie. Mr. Wells, formerly a resident of Wilmette and Evanston, was born in Rockport, Ind., and graduated from Purdue University in 1917 with a degree in civil engineering. A veteran of World War I, he went on to work for the North Carolina and Indiana state highway departments before becoming a plant engineer for International Harvester in Evansville, Ind., and Chicago. He retired in 1964. Mr. Wells is survived by his wife, Edith; two sons, Joel and David; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
