Basketball players will have two new courts and four refurbished ones thanks to the school board`s decision Thursday to toss in the remaining $5,000 needed for the $20,000 project.
The Woodstock Basketball Association, a volunteer organization of area coaches and residents, asked the board for money from the school district`s development impact fees because they had no luck with other city agencies, said Jack Darby, a project coordinator.
The four courts earmarked for improvement include two at Woodstock High School and one at each of the middle schools, Olson and Northwood. They will be resurfaced and receive new backboards, hoops and lines. The two new courts will be built in Emricson Park, which is bordered by South and Jackson Streets.
All work is scheduled to be completed by October.
The board voted 4-3 to provide the $5,000, which is available through interest earned from $581,000 in impact fees.
