The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it will study a petition to recall more than 2 million Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks with fuel tanks mounted outside their frame rails, a design that the Center for Auto Safety, a Washington-based consumer group, contends is dangerous. GM said the pickups meet federal standards.
