Motorists in Park Ridge will no longer be able to just drive around the block or rub the chalk off their tires to beat the two-hour limits in the city`s zoned parking areas.
The city will soon convert to an automated parking ticket system, which uses hand-held computers instead of chalk marks to identify cars that have exceeded the two-hour limits.
According to John Baudek, director of public safety, three Radix hand-held computers should be delivered within a month or two. Another is to be purchased next year.
Baudek said parking enforcement officers can simply enter license plate numbers into the hand-held unit. The unit indicates if the car has exceeded the limit and prints the ticket.
It also raises ”red flags” if the car has several outstanding parking tickets and is eligible for ”the boot.”
