Allan Bloom, 62, University of Chicago professor in the school`s Committee on Social Thought and author of ”The Closing of the American Mind,” died Wednesday in U. of C.`s Bernard Mitchell Hospital. He was a resident of Hyde Park. Survivors include his mother, Malvina Wassel; his stepfather, Herman Wassel; and a sister. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Weinstein Brothers Memorial Chapel, 1300 W. Devon Ave.
