Prior to his assassination in 1965, Malcolm X was a voice of solidarity and unity between the races. He taught that the solution to racism can be achieved only through unity. His high regard for education and self-reliance are valuable lessons that need to be taught to all children.
Malcolm X overcame hatred-inspiring racism with education and intelligence. Hopefully the resurgence of his presence in our popular culture will focus on his inspiring themes and not be skewed to promote racial division.
